In addition to the Discover, Create and Engage modules, we have included a guide for journalists that will explain how to get started on Facebook or simply grow your presence. We’ve heard from journalists that they need more information when deciding between setting up a Page or a profile and about how to manage privacy settings. The “Getting Started” course seeks to answer all of those questions and covers key steps for building out a professional journalistic voice on the platform, including how to apply for the Facebook blue badge that indicates verification.
In the coming weeks, we will also commence a series of webinars on the site which will be tailored to journalists who are both new and old to Facebook. These webinars will be organized according to new products and features, a person’s level of experience using Facebook as a journalist, and their role (newsgatherer, content creator, or audience engagement specialist)....

A question I often receive in my classes and talks is “What will replace Facebook?”
It’s a natural question. We look to history to see the progression of upstarts replacing established companies — didn’t Facebook replace MySpace? — and of course assume there is a new idea out there somewhere waiting to unseat Facebook as the leading social network.
But that is not necessarily the case. What will replace Facebook? Here are six factors that will determine that question … and the company’s future....

I have to admit that the inspiration for this post came from something one of my clients reported their Facebook rep told them --- that Facebook is not a platform for driving sales. It's all about buying impressions for your brand but it's not a place where users want to engage with brand or consume their content so it shouldn't be considered as a sales driver.
My reaction was along the lines of: Wait…WHAT? Is that how they're selling ads these days? And people are actually buying them?
Shouldn't the ultimate goal of any marketing campaign be to drive the business's bottom line -- otherwise, why invest a dime? Sure, tracking direct, measureable sales from social channels is much more difficult than from other digital platforms like banner ads that drive to an e-commerce site or emails that include a unique and trackable coupon code that consumers have access to when they're in the checkout line. But if Facebook doesn't ultimately impact your business's bottom line, why are brands still investing on the platform?...
Brand publishers are more aware that they’re really just renting social media space on Facebook and are moving resources away from the social network. One agency said its clients are pulling away from Facebook in “dramatic numbers”—reallocating their resources to microsites and alternate social channels like LinkedIn—after the agency’s social media managers saw a “dramatic dip” in reach for their messaging over the last 16 months. They attributed this decline to Facebook’s EdgeRank algorithm, which curates the content users see in their News Feeds.
“Brands don’t own what happens on Facebook, and as organic reach has been absolutely eviscerated, they remain aware of that,” said Forrester analyst Nate Elliott, adding that marketers have been telling him that they no longer see Facebook as a viable marketing channel....

By now, many of you will have read about Facebook’s news feed updates, which were made public today.
As well as listing ‘News Feed Values‘, there was also some news for publishers about how content is to be displayed in the news feed.
These updates are amongst the most significant for publishers that we’ve seen. However, while this is obviously big news for many different sites and online news providers, those with strong audience development strategies won’t be too worried. From now on, here’s what Facebook says the news feed will particularly value....
Facebook have opened up Instant Articles to publishers of all sizes. In this post, we’ll guide you through the ins and outs of Facebook’s publishing platform and how to get started.
The announcement that Instant Articles were being opened up to all publishers came in February 2016, and they were officially opened for all on April 12, at Facebook’s F8 conference.
A Facebook-native publishing platform has been rumored since the social network changed its News Feed algorithm to favor “quality content” in 2013. Since that update, Facebook has become one of the top referrers of traffic to news sites and blogs of all sizes, and in the summer of 2015, traffic analytics company Parsely revealed that Facebook had even overtaken Google as the number 1 referrer of traffic to news sites....

Soon enough, Facebook will have products, the buy button and confirmation emails all under one umbrella. This is coming at a time when Pinterest and Google are both adding buy buttons and starting to venture into the e-commerce world. Facebook is catching up in the running, but with the multitude of issues regarding Facebook Business Manager, there have been some mixed emotions about whether to be excited for the new developments.
The company has already introduced money-transferring capabilities and is currently working on a way for you to make purchases through messaging. For example, if you just ordered a shirt in white, you send a Facebook message to the company saying that you would love to also have that shirt in black, and it’s yours. This is made immensely easier because confirmation emails will now come in the form of Facebook messages, which means no more annoying or excessive email trails if you think twice and want to place another order. This helps explain why non-Facebook users are now allowed to use the Messenger app....

This delicate balance is handled by a machine-learning algorithm. In short, it looks for your subtle and obvious indications to know what you do and don’t like seeing in your News Feed. Like any algorithm, it gets things wrong.
Brut what do we really know about its triggers? I asked Facebook for more details about the cause and effect of my behavior in News Feed to figure out why things happen the way they do. The answers were pretty interesting — some were even “Like”-worthy.
Why do I keep seeing the same post appear at the top of my News Feed? I didn’t “Like” it the first time around, so I shouldn’t have to see it the next time I open Facebook. Why is Facebook nagging me to like something?...
